Sig Sauer didn’t bring a lot of new things to SHOT Show in 2019, but they did improve on a number of their existing weapons.
The most significant introductions from Sig Sauer in 2019 was an impressive line of additions to their P320 X-Series of firearms. The latest P320 frame in the X-Series is a proper compact frame, the P320 X-Compact. As a factory gun, it’s as close to custom as you can get without being custom.
Since Sig holds their own range day the Sunday before NSSF’s Media Range Day, I didn’t get the opportunity to shoot it, but I was able to handle one in their booth during the show.
Here are my take-aways:
Ergonomics
The gun is impressive and feels fantastic in hand. The X-Compact has a nice beavertail that will undoubtedly help control the weapon when firing rapidly. The impressively high undercut allows you to get your hand very high on the grip, which again will aid in maintaining control of the weapon. The grip itself is heavily textured and comfortable in hand.
Trigger
The X-Compact also has a flat face trigger that reduces reach and personally, I’m a big fan of them. Dry firing the gun showed me a noticeably improved trigger. It’s lighter, smoother and the reset is very lovely as well.
Size
The gun is compact and lightweight. It features a 3.6-inch barrel, a total length of 7 inches, and weighs only 25.3 ounces. For guys like me, this is a great carry gun. The X-Compact sets the bar higher when it comes to concealed carry firearms, so I expect it to make a significant splash when it hits the market.
Sights
The gun comes optic’s ready and features the same removable plate you’ll find on the XM17 series of firearms. You can toss on a Romeo1 and start spitting lead if you want irons the gun does come with the brilliant XRAY3 sights that I love on my P365.
Forward-Thinking
The X-Five and X-Carry models have shown that SIG can produce a semi-custom gun at a high price point and I’m excited to see where they can go with this market. Although we often see guns with infinite potential wholly abandoned, the X-Compact gives me hope that Sig’s P320 platform will continue to innovate and grow!
The Take-Away
In my opinion, if Sig Sauer keeps pressing forward, the P320 may become the most modular handgun ever! It will also be interesting to see if they extended the X-Series out to their smaller guns like the P365, which has a similar modular frame system.
What do you think? Have you tried the X-Carry or X-Compact? Do you carry one for your EDC? Let us know in the comments, we want to hear from you!
