The Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade, or SHOT Show, is one of the biggest and most anticipated trade shows for the civilian firearms industry, and it showcases some of the latest products and innovations coming down the firearms pipeline.
SHOT 2023 was held in Las Vegas, January 17-20, and during those 4 intense days, industry professionals and permitted firearm enthusiasts have the opportunity to see some of the most exciting and downright coolest products, advancements, and more. With everything from the newest firearms from the biggest manufacturers, to cutting-edge gear, there’s always something for everybody, even if everybody can’t go.
We’re going to take a look at what we feel are some of the highlights of this year’s SHOT Show. Just like the show itself, not everything will be guns or ammo-related, but we promise that everything will be cool. Let’s dig in.
Hi-Point JXP 10mm
Hi-Point Firearms is known for putting out quality, affordable firearms, and they’ve gone above and beyond. Their newest offering is a chunky 49-ounce 10mm pistol. With a threaded barrel just 5.2” long, 10-round capacity, adjustable rear sights, and accessory rail, this darling might just be our new EDC. With an MSRP below $250, getting a matching pair sounds even better.
Beretta Cheetah, 92Xl, And A300 Ultima Patrol Shotgun
There are few names as recognizable as Beretta, and this year they took the opportunity at SHOT to bring back a completely reimagined 80X Cheetah. It’s got a smaller grip, double/single trigger, skeletonized hammer, and a hefty 13+1 capacity, chambered in .380.
The show-stopper was their A300 Ultima Patrol powerhouse. This 12-gauge monster shows off a sleek design, enlarged controls, and a re-tuned loading port. It comes equipped with M-LOK attachment points and holds 7+1 shells for maximum longevity.
Phoenix Weaponry
Speaking of shotguns, the Integrally Suppressed shotguns from Phoenix Weaponry blew us away. They are offering custom shotgun modifications, which place the suppressor further up the barrel, which allows a choke to be used. Not only can you now use a choke, but you get a drastically changed balance and shot feel from your shotgun.
Since it’s custom, you need to ship your shotgun to them, but they send it back with the integrated suppressor ready to shave off about 25dB from your next pull, which is nothing to sneeze at. It starts at about $1,200, and that’s before you pay for your NFA tax stamp.
A New Tippman Gatling
It was inevitable that they’d come up with something even wilder than their magazine-fed 9mm Gatling gun, but when you see it in real life it doesn’t make it any less unbelievable. Tippman Ordnance has created a .22 LR Gatling gun that spits a steady stream of everyone’s favorite plinking ammo, fed to it on a polymer belt.
Now, we all know it’s a little bit silly, but we also know that if we had the estimated $4,500 that they’re likely going to price it at, that check would already be written. No idea what we’ll need it for, but we know we need it!
We’re hoping the next round they take on is the .17 HMR, we’d love to see a Gatling pepper out 1,000 rounds a minute of that.
Spotting New Optics
There were a lot of new optics systems hitting the scene at SHOT this year.
Vortex debuted a new Strike Eagle 3-18×44 FFP riflescope that fills a mighty need for long-range, high-precision shooting. This FPP variable can let you reach out and touch targets much easier, for less than $1,000.
Riton Optics was there as well, showing off the new 5 Tactix 1-10x24mm LVPO riflescope. This is another scope that’s new for 2023 and is one of the newly redesigned rifle scopes that Riton is putting out. This new Tactix has capped turrets, 0.1 MRAD adjustments, and a beautiful first-focal-plane illuminated reticle, also for less than $1,000.
To round off the notable optics offerings, top-end glassmaker Leica showed off their Geovid Pro 42 rangefinding binoculars, and there is nothing like looking through the glass of an industry-leading manufacturer like Leica. With features like applied ballistics, GPS, and more, there’s no question why the MSRP cruises comfortably past $3K.
Staying Sharp
Blade legend Case Knives were at SHOT showing off some of their new everyday carry lines. The big news was the addition of a third style to the brand’s EDC lineup, called the Westline. It’s a 2.9” modified drop point blade, expertly crafted from S35VN steel, which is known for ultimate edge retention, toughness, and corrosion resistance.
Wrapping Up
SHOT 2023 was absolutely amazing, and while it’s hard to imagine anything topping it, we’re sure that SHOT 2024 will make us rethink that sentiment, just as we do every year. That’s ok, keep the goodies coming, we’re definitely here for it.
